Beginning of Subway :

Subway's origin story surprisingly has a scientific twist! In 1965, a 17-year-old Fred DeLuca needed money for college. Feeling stuck, he sought advice from family friend Dr. Peter Buck, a nuclear physicist. Dr. Buck recalled a sub shop from his youth and suggested Fred open a similar one. He even lent Fred $1,000 to start the business. They opened "Pete's Super Submarines" in Bridgeport, CT, but soon faced a problem: customers often misheard the name. They quickly shortened it to "Subway." On opening day, they sold out of their signature foot-long sub, priced at just 69 cents, setting the stage for Subway’s future success.
